Overview
“Mani Mansion derived from name “Manibhai”, who was a legendry social worker and acclaimed businessman had build this House in the year 1923. This Heritage House was once home to the entire Dalal family and it continues to resemble the magnificence of its original Eclectic architecture even today.
Spread in about 2300sq meter, this House had seven huge rooms on the ground floor along with verandah and a porch in this main building. Besides it there was a Masala Grinding room (which is pizzeria and fountain side seat out area today) adjoining with a kitchen, dining and a store (which is a/c restaurant, store and kitchen even today). Tushar Dalal recollects the say-ing of his grandfather Manibhai when Mohandas Gandhi visited this House and told Manibhai that “Khap purtu hoy to lok seva karo” (if you have sufficient money to live, start doing social work) and from that day onwards Manibhai left the luxury life and engaged himself in social welfare. Manibhai used to buy quinine powder and fill it in capsules in this House and will distribute to the needy people. During winter, Manibhai used to ride on his horse cart and distribute blankets to those who were spending nights on street roads.
Apart from being a beloved family heirloom, this place is also an important part of the evolution of the culture, history and lineage of the city of Ahmedabad. This Heritage House had once housed eminent literary personalities, well known poets and legendary musician. In the yesteryears, the House saw a regular influx of visitors from the influential strata of the society. Gujarati literary giants including Jyotindra Dave, Jay Bhiku and Chandravadan Mehta were patrons of the House and stayed here for days working on their projects. In fact, there are rooms in the House that still carry the essence of their artistic creativity. Legendary artists like Ravi Shankar Raval, theater personality-Jay Shankar Sundri were also frequent visitors of the House. Even today, Mani Mansion preserves the lineage and continues the legacy with eminent personalities like Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi-one of the country’s most respected politicians, Dutch Pianist Mike Del Ferro, Bollywood celebrities, theater artists like Bomi Dotiwala, Veteran Actress Asha Parekh, Olympic Medal Winner Mary Kom and Oscar winner-Bombay Jayashree having been patrons of the hotel and its facilities.
Tushar Dalal grandson of Manibhai Dalal continues the legacy and has thoughtfully and carefully restored the property and had left it open for the tourist to experience the old charm of his ancestral House.Mani Mansion is now associated with WelcomeHeritage and will be known as WelcomeHeritage Mani Mansion.
